Welcome to the reality revolution podcast. I’m your host, Brian Scott, life coach, reality artists, laptop, entrepreneur, futurist, epiphany addict. Wow. Junkie. This podcast is dedicated to all the spirits who believe life is meant to be magical and fun. It contains advanced viewpoints for the multidimensional human beings of the 21st century. Here we ventured to share the mysteries of self. In reality, our primary purpose is to reawaken your sense of fascination and ah, towards life and to shatter your rigid belief systems and ways of seeing the world. My goal is to help you hack your reality, unleash your potential, and open unlimited possibilities of wealth, health, and relationships in your life. Today. Today we’re going to talk about purpose. One of my favorite topics, the idea of finding your purpose of your life’s purpose, what it means, how to do it. We’re going to break it down. We’re going to look at everything about finding your purpose. One of the interesting things that I experienced it, first time I worked as a coach, as a life coach, it was with somebody who I personally believed to be very accomplished. You’ve started multiple businesses, very successful businesses, and had been incredibly successful in multiple different things. Had been an athlete and a and a very, very advanced martial artist that he can play the piano and he’s very impressive person. And so the opportunity to help coach him was rather unusual. I mean in many ways he could’ve coached me, but when I began to talk to him it, the biggest thing was to find, he wanted to find his purpose. And that really touched a chord with me because I had felt like I had found my purpose, but I had not realized that I had found my purpose. And in many cases, many of you out there may seek to find your purpose and you feel like you didn’t find it. But eventually you look back and you actually did. And that’s one of the interesting aspects of this, but we need to talk about what your purpose is. If you want to read an incredible book that will make you cry with tears of joy and sadness, that man’s search for meaning by Viktor Frankl. It is wonderful book and it tells a dreadful story of him being in a concentration camp and knowing that he could die at any day. And what it was like being in that environment and the people around him and how they found purpose and meaning. Even in those moments when you could have no purpose or meaning and it made a difference of life and death, these people would survive or not. They would, they would share cigarettes and they would hold onto the cigarettes as currency. And you could tell if somebody was smoking a cigarette that they had given up, that they had given up and they had, they’d lost their meaning. Purpose. And in many ways we are purposes change, shift in it and adjust as we go along. And most cases, most people don’t have a singular purpose, but I’m telling you, something magical happens when you find your true purpose. And I personally believe that everybody has a true purpose, a true gift, something special that’s deep inside of you. Every person I meet has a spark that when I look at them, I say, wow, this person can be incredible. And we literally live in our shells, in our worlds thinking that we are not good enough, that we are not able to accomplish the things that we truly want to, and we don’t take those chances. We don’t try the things that we needed. We don’t learn the skills that we need. If you could just find that spark inside of you that could change everything for you, and we’re talking about the greatest magic, the magic of purpose, what kind of purpose is yours? You have a gift that only you or meant to be here. I believe that you have a gift that’s special to you and you have a way of solving a problem that only you can solve and you can contribute to the greatness of all of us with your purpose and the greatness inside of you that you know needs to come out. No. Les Brown said that if people fail in life, not because they aim too high and miss, but because they aim too low and hit, I have no doubt that if you decide to follow the masses, stay close to the safety net and talk yourself out of your uncommon dreams you possess within yourself the ability to all those low goals that you have. I have no doubt that if you aim at the low goals, you will never hit the big ones dared not attempt to shoot for and will never experience the fulfillment that comes from doing that which you were sent to this earth to do. I said it. Yeah, I said it. It could be a part of something beyond anything that you can comprehend our doubts. Our traders said Shakespeare and make us lose the good. We oft might win by fearing to attempt. How many times in your life have you missed out on destiny because you settled for normalcy? How many times in your life have you missed out on an inconceivable opportunity because you were afraid to even attempt pursuing them for one reason or another? Most of us don’t know what we want and haven’t been given the time and the space to find clarity about it. We both haven’t been given the time and we haven’t given ourselves the time and so it lurks in the back of our minds this lack of purpose, that focal point. It isn’t about something we’re taught in school as a default. We gravitate to what’s considered normal and easy. What our parents or our friends, our spouses and bosses want from us. Yet when we’re little, we’re told stories about the legends and visionaries like Martin Luther King who’s dream literally changed the world. Mahatma Gandhi who’d never ever was violent in any way and causing an incredible change or revolution with his peace. Steve Jobs, who changed the way we live our lives, rosa parks who changed everything and Frank Abraham Lincoln, Michael Jordan, Lebron James, Eddie vetter, and all other seemingly larger than life people, their ability to alter human history. Where does it come from and why them? Instead of digging deeper to answer these questions, we naively tell our kids stories about honorable people by making them out to be some rare breed of superhuman beings, ones that are born with gifts that you and I just will never have. What intrigues me about all the visionaries that I mentioned above and the others, including Aristotle, Maya Angelou, Plato, Albert Einstein, Mark Twain, Stephen Hawking is the fact that they continue to breathe the same air as us. Has that ever occurred to you? The very same sun warm their bodies. They watched the same stars. Anatomically, they were the same. They use two feet when they walked, but they were really weird. Seriously, very strange. But all of us are odd in our own ways, so that can’t be the sole reason they become legendary rather than ordinary. These people aren’t really unique on any level except one. They knew exactly what they wanted. They had a vision. They put this vision before their very lives and thus became larger than life. But let’s not get captured in the Hollywood idea of lights and fame and icons in cult like following of celebrities. Let’s stick with the how these people made lives filled with such meaning and value. The first place to focus our attention is vision. Knowing what you want. They knew that life is too short to live without dreams and to do any nonsense that you want to do. There’s no point to life if you don’t find what you love and then work toward that vision every day. One day you will or perhaps won’t wake up and there won’t be time to do all the that you wanted to do. And that’s why the greats became great. They knew this and did what they loved while they still could. You and I and everyone else who’s ever breathed earth air, who have been so lucky or like individual planets, solar systems, individual galaxies and universes. Each of us has a gravitational pull. The women and men who’ve changed the world knew that if you decide and define what you want to pull into your life and know the destiny that you want to orbit in the moon’s, that shine on your night will be those of a meaningful life. So when people say, what should I do with my life? Or what is my life purpose? What are they’re actually saying is what can I do with my time? That is important. What are they saying? People often say, I think I feel this. Can you see that? That’s where what we’ve lost. We’ve started to overthink how we feel. We think about what we want rather than just feeling out and doing things that gives our life the most excitement and meaning. That’s why people thought, gee, Steve jobs was crazy. He quit doing what he thought he should do and started doing what he felt he should do. And everyone said, what are you thinking? Don’t drop out of college. But he wasn’t thinking. He was feeling. He answered the inner calling of destiny and purpose that lies within each of us. People also questioned the Wright brothers when they said he would make a plane fly, but they felt that they could and they did. It’s quite funny. We’ve thought up this entire reality. What’s good and bad, right and wrong, smart and dumb. Safe and risky. Normal and crazy possible and impossible. But we never considered the most important thing. What aunt? Instead, we’ve created boundaries around everything and we’ve decided that this is how life is supposed to be lived, but how can anyone tell you what life is supposed to be like? How can anybody tell you? How can another person decide how you’re going to spend your time when they aren’t you? The purpose of this podcast is to share what I’ve experienced in many ways. It’s your own experience that will define your growth in your journey. The answer is that it’s possible only we give up our power of choice, but no legend, visionary or hero has ever done that. They don’t give up their right to decide on their own destiny to take their intention and make a choice because that’s what you’re doing. You’re constructing reality. As Vadim Zealand said, the old adage, live your life simply means live your life. It does not mean live Mommy’s life or live daddy’s life, but he never had the courage to live or live Justin Bieber’s life were lived. That life that everyone else says you should live or live the life of what’s easiest and most normal or live. The life that your teachers tell you is right, smart and safe. Live your life means you live your own life. Nobody else’s. Now, to make this happen, we must take the first step in living the life that you want, which is to create the terms of your life. You must have a dream, a direction. However, this is often the moment when a voice in our head creeps in and says, what if people think I’m crazy? What if people think I’m insane? What are they going to think? Now? What are those things people are gonna think you know? In my experience with this podcast, I tell everybody out there, start your own podcast. Write your own blog, tell your own story. Whatever you feel comfortable with. Make a youtube channel. Go out there and express it, and at the beginning, who cares if anybody watches or listens to it because you’re going to find your voice. Find Your Voice in whatever way you want to find it. You can do that. Who cares. If people think I’m nuts. It’s better to be strange to others than be a stranger to myself. Be Yourself, whoever that is, and that is only possible if you don’t settle until you find what you Bov and do it with all of your heart and focus. One of the most quoted lines that we’ve heard by Shakespeare to be or not to be, that is the question, but that is not the question. That is the choice, a choice. We all have to make big to be the person you want to be and do things you really want to do, so make the choice not to. When you choose to pursue what you love, life becomes so much more than what we think of as ordinary experiences, choices, routines, and careers. Despite the fact that I’ve had several degrees and a master’s degree, none of it applied to what my purpose was. Two degrees and a master’s degree and instruction to certifications and and hypnosis in neural linguistic program, graming and Silva mind control method. All of those things never mattered because I believe the education I’ve gained has been outside of that. That would point of this podcast is to give you a thesis, a first step in living above and beyond the ordinary to know what you want. That’s it. Just know what you want and know that you can choose your future reality. You have the ability of choosing your own future reality. That’s it, and when you know what you want, you know what you will or won’t stand for it. At the great that I mentioned above, wouldn’t say stand for anything other than what they wanted and that’s why they changed history. That’s why we talk about them and all their lives they’ve touched. The only difference between social icons and the average person is they knew what they wanted. They had a vision and a direction, something that pulled them out of bed. They didn’t listen to the voice in their head. That said, turn the alarm off and go back to sleep for another 15 yes and then get out of bed and get to work. We’ve all had that voice. It is out of bed, but come on. Is that really the voice we want to wake up to? Imagine waking up, bounding out of bed. So excited for the day connected to source. So here’s the question. What do you want? What would have to happen in the next year for you to look back and say was your most successful and fulfilling year yet? I know a lot of people say, hey, I don’t know what I want. I just want to, they did. I know this because that’s almost the only thing a lot of us ever say in life about what we want. I don’t know. We don’t know what we want. So we just stand in line buying things that other people want us to buy. We remain in a vicious cycle of not knowing what we want yet, not realizing that we don’t know what we want because we’re too distracted by what other people want us to want and by what we think we have to do. And I believe that life itself demands us to tell it what we want because otherwise it’s useless. Life is just waiting, asking, how can I serve you? But we don’t know how it can serve us. And so we say, I don’t know. It doesn’t matter. I don’t matter. But if you didn’t matter, you wouldn’t be here. Now I’m going to ask again the same question that I just asked and I want you to answer this question. What would have to happen next year for you to look back and say it was the most successful and fulfilling year yet remember success and fulfilling. Think about it. Why? Why do most heart attacks occur between the hours of six and 9:00 AM on Monday morning? Because we have the stress, worry, fear and boredom pole pull us out of bed when we deserve to be pulled out of bed by excitement to chase our dreams and to help others. That’s why I believe at my core when we’re looking out the highest rate of teen suicides ever, we’ve got a whole lot of people doing a whole lot of things they really don’t want to do at all to find meaning and purpose and life. You must create a direction, a vision, a dream. You must know what you want. But first you must stop telling yourself that dreams don’t matter, that their only dreams and that you should be more sensible. Because when you cease to dream and pursue your dreams, you see still live. So don’t simply seek success even if you want it instead, do what you love and success will come. You only have one life. And if you’re not doing what you love, then what’s the point of living? I think that we can find the answer to what we want by asking ourselves what makes you feel like yourself? It becomes so clear to everyone in the everyone that’s listening. When I’m talking to that we live in a world where everyone wants us to be something other than who we are. Or so often we become something other than ourselves turning our life into a fight to get back to where we once were. I’ve been there and the solution is just this brilliant as this brilliant idea of maneuvering through universe. Having access to infinite intelligence within our intuitive minds do what makes you feel like self. So what makes you feel like yourself? Play the what if game, like when you were a kid, what if nothing could stop you? What if your answer couldn’t be, I don’t know, or there’s too many things so I can’t possibly choose. What if you couldn’t fail and your lack of resources wouldn’t limit you would have? What would have to happen in the next year for you to look back and say that it was your most successful and fulfilling year yet I’m serious. Take out your journal, a sheet of paper and define this in one or two sentences. Describe how your ideal life would look in one year. Don’t think about it. Just feel the only way you can ever truly know something by putting yourself there, there to do. So. Time travel in your mind to the future because it’s available to you. Feel what it would be like to live this dream as though it were happening in the present moment right now. Get up and act it out. If it helps you act it out. Become an actor and take the role of whatever it is and just become it and act it out. Come back here and describe it. Define it, did it feel wondrously beautiful. Should writing down what you want is the first step to creating success and fulfillment. Okay. Jack Canfield, one of my favorite authors has this in his success principles book. I highly recommend that you read the success principles is wonderful and this was one of the most powerful exercises that I did. You know many people out there wish for life to be exclusively perfect, but the good life that most desire is actually a life warmed by mistakes and humility of life touched with ceremonial grace, which is impossible to live without. Occasionally picking your nose and dancing naked, maybe not in public, and many people who seek perfection think that life is like a math test. They think that if they don’t get really serious, they’ll fail or won’t get straight A’s. However, I think life is more like those times when you think you misplaced your car keys, you’re actually in your hand. We spend much of our time intensely looking out into the world for life, but the keys are of our purpose or in our hands, in our own perception. As a result, we spend our time desperately trying to find life when it is actually already in our hands and we can choose how we wish to live. So why not lighten up, be weird and be yourself? The mind is like a a county fair. There are thousands of voices in your head all calling out to you, take their ride. They’re all telling you that you must do this where and how you must look and what you should say. Why not this fear? The majority people tell you to buy the ticket and take their ride, but have you ever wondered what happens when you don’t buy the ticket? If you choose not to do all those things you think you must do in order for your life to be perfect? We spend a lot of time trying to beat, to get everything just right, stressing ourselves out, only to make one day see that there is no need to be so uptight. One of the things I know for sure is that a lot of good things start to happen when you seriously get serious about not being so serious. We don’t allow ourselves to be happier because we forget how close to death we truly are. We think it’s more important to look good or do well than it is to enjoy life. Uh, confirming it isn’t worth it. Just take a look at some of the greatest can punch contributors, Steve Jobs, Albert Einstein, Morrison, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Richard Branson. Not only were they great influencers to the consciousness of humanity, but also they were really weird and strange. They didn’t try to be normal. They were themselves and followed their wild imaginations. And I’m just saying this because it’s something that’s not mentioned in a lot of books about finding your purpose. Don’t be afraid to be weird or strange. Don’t worry about what other people think. That is what should be normal. The thing I’ve learned from this, these events in my life, you and me, our time is limited. You think it’s going along and something could suddenly happen and everything could change. Don’t waste your time trying to make life so perfect that you do everything except live life is a thing. Far too important to take seriously. The sense of humor is the main measure of sanity. One fascinating story I, I’ve heard many times is Sylvester Stallone who had,W had written the script to rocky and they had offered him, he had had the drive, encouraged to write many scripts and he had, he had his wife threatened to leave him and, but he didn’t give up. And then Ben, he lost all of his money and at some point he had to sell, his dog had to sell his dog and he didn’t have enough money even to eat. And then they read a screenplay. But the inspiration for the screenplay came was where it was personal and they offered him 100,000 then they offered him 200,000 and he asked, can I be rocky? Then they offered him a million and he said, can I be rocky? And I said No. And they offered him 50,000 and have the ability to take the role and he chose the less because he believed so much in his purpose. That to me is an example of somebody that going after their purchase, their purpose. Robert Rodriguez creating a movie for literally like a hundred bucks that became a motion picture by sacrificing everything, using wheelchairs and borrowing equipment and giving away his blood. That’s the purpose. You read the book rebel without a crew by Robert Rodriguez. It is incredible. The journey that he had to become a director and a creator. He’s created and directed so many movies that you’ve and he started out by doing everything. If he could, sacrificing everything, giving his blood to pay for a movie, this is an infinitely better question to ask. It’s for more manageable and it doesn’t have all of the ridiculous baggage that life purpose questions does. There’s no reason for you to be contemplating the cosmetics is significance of your life while sitting on your couch listening to this, you should just get up and discover what feels important to you. One of the, one of the most common questions I get with my clients is I get people asking me whether they should watch that should do with their lives. What’s their life purpose? This is an impossible question for me to answer after all. For All, I know that this person is really into knitting sweaters for kittens or filming, filming porn in their basement. I have no clue who I might’ve say what’s right or what’s important to them because you will find your purpose. Aye probably believe that, that there’s a greater purpose for them as well. So you just got to ask yourself some questions. Remember, our time is limited. Don’t waste your time trying to make life perfect. Your life’s purpose. Why? What would you like to do? Why are you here? Who are you meant to be? Yeah. What would you, what do you like to do? What were you meant to do? Does your purpose something that you get to choose or is it something that has already been determined for you? Different people answer this question differently. If you believe your purpose is already exist in your job is to discover what it is. I think there’s two types of methods for finding your purpose. Indirect access and direct access. It’s kind of like the work of a crime scene investigator use includes to piece together what occurred in a crime scene. It’s often difficult to tell exactly what happened though it is usually possible to get rough idea. The same is also with indirect access. Direct access entails communicating directly with your soul and asking what your purposes, the results in a much clearer picture of your life’s purpose. Then achieved through indirect access methods. When you are doing things in alignment with your purpose, it feels different. You’re soul gives you pretty positive feedback. That’s it for me. It’s usually means you feel fulfilled, passionate about what you’re making, a difference. Things happen easily. Chance coincidence seemed to support your goals and your projects, serendipity and synchronicity. Your your efforts produce results seemingly with little effort. Whenever I say the word Serendipity, I always think of that movie so it always distracts me. Many people refer to this as the one as s flow on your times in your life you felt most passionate. What are the times in your life when you felt most fulfilled? When are the times felt your life has had the most meaning? W. W when are the Times you felt most aligned? When are the times when you’ve experienced ease, flow, synchronicity, and serendipity? Use Your Journal. Answer these questions. They will provide additional information that can be used to discover features of your purpose. What did you always want to be? What did you want to do when you grew up? When you were uniquely designed, prepared to do list of the things which you were consistently drawn? What were what? What about them draws you? If you had a year to live, what would you spend your time doing? Yeah. You’ve lived to a ripe old age and you’re laying on your deathbed. You look back with satisfaction over a long fulfilling life. You feel satisfied and fulfilled because you did or were what you won the lottery and all your financial needs are handled. You spend a year traveling, buying expensive toys and having fun and then get bored and decided it’s time to do something meaningful with your new found freedom. What would you do? Imagine that all the issues and wounds from your childhood were chosen deliberately by your own soul in order to develop and hone you. How have your psychological issues trained and developed you? What skills are gifts have you received or learned from? Ask 10 people in your life. What happens when I come into the room? What shows what shows up? When I show up, these questions speak directly with the invisible effect of our essence. That is the impact of your presence on other people without you actually engaging in the activity. Do you like any indirect access method? You are the person least qualified to interpret the results in order to get the best results from this message. You employed the services, someone to transform you and in many cases people can see these, can see these changes. Create a purpose statement, right one out. Write out what your gifts, what you love, what you loved as a kid, what you look others up to. Write it down your deep beliefs. Imagine a circle where everything in each part of this is all required for each other like an equation. And anyone that’s zero, you don’t get any of it. What is your deep leaf? And inside the circle your conviction inside that your gift and inside that your problem and inside that your project, all of those define your purpose. Find your, if you can’t believe, you cannot find your purpose. But after that, find your gift. One of the greatest tragedies. There’s most people die without ever tapping into the gift that was given to them, which had the ability to change the life and change the world. And then you have your problems. Your messages can be come messages and you can turn them into messages to help other people. What problem were you put here to solve and your project once? One of the biggest problems people face discovering the purpose is they have in their mind they PR, um, a picture of a purpose. And then they say, oh, one day I’ll discover my purpose and they do this, but it has to entail a journey. Your purpose is a journey and it’s a movement in tech. It’s a future vision of multiple assignment on this earth is not one of venting and the distant future where while during the rest of your life you must hold for it’s, it’s the journey. It’s the journey to purpose is discover the purpose road by that has your name on positioning yourself on the correct road, diligently doing what is in your power and allowing for the power of the outside universe to help you by the information that you receive. I actually find it very fascinating that we don’t train our kids to learn their purpose in society where people in places, positions, environments they’re most effective and engaged because they would do some, it makes more and come alive and allows us to fit uniquely like a shaped shaped puzzle fits in in Splott. I can see however, the fact that our society is set up this way makes sense. Even our subconscious definition that our society gives the word success. Since you were young, you were taught that success is good and failure is bad. You score the most points in a game, you win. If you don’t, you lose. If you score above a certain number on a test, you pass. If you score below that number, you fail and the list goes on. Because we generally define success in terms of winning money, status, security and other things of sort. We set up institutions of society, like school and family to prioritize preparing individuals to attain these things. When reality is, there’s not a measurement by definition of true success at all, and this is where the good news comes in for us who feel drawn to something that don’t feel the freedom to pursue the true definition of success was and is and always will be. The purpose of the thing fulfilled because you catch that the success is the purpose of a thing fulfilled. That means the chair in your house may serve as a great place to pile up close after they’re washed, dried and folded with the chair cannot hold up a person who dare, who desires to sit on it, no matter how well it could be used for piling up close. That chair is a failure. The watch on your wrist maybe beautifully and crusted with eloquent diamonds that turns heads everywhere you go. But the watch does not have the ability to accurately tell time that watches their failure or is in the act of failing until someone trained to fix it does so. The stunning truth also means, however, that even if you cannot fit the molds and expectations that everyone in society wants you to fit in such a good student or good athlete, it does not mean that you’re a failure, but rather could mean that you are simply operating in a space that’s outside of your purpose. Thus cannot be used to measure your being a success or failure in life. Kill the six assassins procrastination. The reason you procrastinate on the individual task of your day is quite simply that those tasks don’t mean enough for you and the reason you procrastinate in general, just going through the motions in life, is that you have nothing. You’re aiming at nothing you were moving toward and no sense of purpose in your life. Social media taking away and procrastinating. If a person is limited in the understanding and finding your beliefs, if you you, you limit. If you’re limited in your beliefs in life, you aim it. Bullseye called their purpose and the very best will merely hit some mark on the target as a whole. For this reason, we must kill the assassin of limiting beliefs that women and belief are our beliefs. Killer hopes of finding, following, and fulfilling of I life’s purpose. In time we have belief. Our life comes to an end who you associate your can determine your purpose. The five people that you’re with, who determines who you are. They’re determining your purpose. Don’t let them, your insecurity will destroy your purpose. Support people. Don’t compare accountability, not being accountable. You’ve ever had somebody that helped you accountable that you wanted to do something when he had countability do it, you helped follow your purpose. Purpose. Accountability can help. You have to ask yourself, what are you willing to put up with? Because sometimes things suck and you have to put up with it and then you ask yourself, what did that eight year old self behind you look back and what do you think of you now? What are the things that you lose to such attention and you forget to go to the bathroom that you forget to do? All the things that you want to do. Are you willing to embarrass yourself? Are you willing to take chances because your purpose is more important before you’re able to be good at something and do something important? You must first suck at something and have no clue about what you’re doing. That’s pretty obvious. In order to suck at something, you have no clue of what you’re doing. You must embarrass yourself in some shape, way or form repeatedly, and the people that are willing to embarrass themselves the most are the ones that are the most successful and most people try to avoid embarrassing themselves, namely because it sucks air go due to the transitive property of awesomeness. If you avoid something, I think anything that could potentially embarrass you, then you will never end up doing something that feels important. Once again, it all comes down to vulnerability. Right now there’s something you want to do, something you think about doing something you fantasize about. Yeah, you don’t do it. You have reasons, no doubt, and you repeat these reasons to yourself over and over again, but what are those reasons? Because I can tell you right now that if those reasons are based on what others would think, then you’re screwing yourself over big time. If your reasons or something like, I can’t start a business because spending time with my kids is more important to me or playing or playing Minecraft all day. We probably interfere with my music and my music is more important to me that, okay, if you’re going to play fort night, play that all day, but your purpose is that you want to be a writer is your purpose that you want to play for nine all day, but, but if your reasons are my parents would hate it or my friends would make fun of me, or if I failed, I’d look like an idiot, then chances are you’re actually avoiding something you truly care about because caring about that thing is what scares the crap out of you. Not wanting what mom thinks or what dad thinks or your next door neighbor says, living a life, avoiding embarrassment is akin to living a life with your head in the sand. Great things are barred, their very nature unique and unconventional. Therefore to achieve them, we must go against the herd mentality, break away from the Matrix and do that. That is scary because these realities are there for us. We just have to choose to take them and brace. Embarrassment, feeling foolish is part of the path to achieving something important, something meaningful. The more major life decisions scares you, chances are the more you need to be doing it, how are you going to save the world? In case you haven’t seen the news lately, the world has a few problems and by a few problems what I really mean, everything is messed up. We’re all going to die. I’ve harped on this in my other podcasts and the research bears it out, but to live a happy and healthy life, we must hold on to values that are greater than our own pleasure or satisfaction. So pick a problem and start saving the world. Maybe that’s your purpose. Maybe you’re avoiding it. There are plenty to choose from. We’ve got screwed up. Educational Systems, economic development, vesting violence, mental health care. We’ve got corruption in the government. We’ve got world oars all around religious conflicts. Sex Trafficking, find a problem you care about and start solving it. Global warming, the greenhouse effect. If that’s a problem, don’t, don’t tweet about it. Don’t do anything on Facebook about it. If you did something about that, would that feel good to you? Would that sparked the magic that we’re talking about? Because we’re just trying to get this magic that the purpose we’ll give you, it is extreme of magic that comes in and it blossoms your life and it explodes the possibilities before you be on anything you can imagine. So if somebody said you had to leave your house right now, ask the question. Somebody said you can’t be home all day and you have to go do something, what would thing that you’d be wanting to do that doesn’t make you complacent? Discover what you’re passionate about in life and what matters to you is full contact, hardcore sport. There’s feedback that you receive and you have to adjust. There’s a trial and error process. That is the way that we maneuver through such complex realities become Aralee reality artist by finding that way that you can do that thing. No. None of us know exactly how we feel and about an activity until we’ve actually done the activity. So experience life to find your purpose. Ask yourself if someone you know, put a gun in, forced you to do something and you’ve had to do at your purposes, then what would your purpose be? If somebody put a gun to you and they had, they had in their hands a lie detector. It was a perfect lie detector and no matter what it could detect perfectly if you lied or not and they put a gun to your head right now and they gave you three seconds and they said, you have three seconds to tell me your purpose or I or you die and they have the detector. What would your purpose be? I’m going to give you three seconds. Okay. What was your purpose? Sometimes you have to get out of the house to do that thing you want to do. Sign up for a dance class. Go to go to Yoga, join a book club, go get another degree, invent something, invent a toy binding. Find a way to understand irrigation so you can save thousands of lives in rural Africa. If you have to learn to hang, glide goes zip line, go look at the whales. What would you do with all the time? If you had everything that you wanted, if you were a multibillionaire and you didn’t have to work and you could do and have anything, what would you do then what would your purpose be? Then what would your purpose be? Then attach yourself to that. If it strikes your fancy, write down a few answers and then go out and actually do them and if you end up embarrassing yourself, then go for it. If you knew you were going to die, what would you do and how would you want to be remembered? Most of us don’t like thinking about dad freaks us out, but thinking about our own death surprisingly has a lot of practical advantages. One of those advantages is that it forces us to zero in on what’s actually important in our lives and what’s frivolous and distracting. When I was in college, I used to walk around and ask people, if you’ve got a year to live, what would you do? As you can imagine, I was a huge hit at parties. A lot of people gave vague and boring answers. A few drinks were nearly spat on me and I spent a few drinks myself, but it did cause people to really think about their lives in a different way and reevaluate what their priorities were. One of my favorite questions to ask one man, imagine out there his headstone is going to read. Jo watched every episode of lost on my headstone. It’ll say, Brian watched every episode of fire escape every episode of Star Gate, every episode of Star Trek, all the seasons, every episode of lost, and then that’s all it will say. What is your legacy going to be? What are the stories people are going to tell when you were gone? I realized when I found my purpose after I nearly died that I wanted to share this. You shouldn’t have to go through a near death experience to have this power because it is a power. Having awareness of the total finality of death being before you and how truly grateful you should be to be alive is a magic that I’m giving you through this podcast. You fantasize about your obituary saying a bunch of Badass stuff that impresses a bunch of random other people that again, you’re failing here. When people feel like they have no sense of direction, no purpose in their life, it’s because they don’t know what’s important to them. They don’t know what their values are, and when you don’t know what your values are, then you’re essentially taking on other people’s values and living other people’s priorities instead of your own. This is a one way ticket to unhealthy relationships and total misery. Discovering one’s purpose in life. Oil’s down to finding those one or two things that are bigger than yourself and bigger than those around you. It’s not about some great achievement, but merely finding a way to spend your limited amount of time well and to do. You must get off your couch and act and take the time. Think about beyond yourself. Think greater than yourself, the paradoxically to imagine a world without yourself. Are you struggling to discover your purpose? How maybe because you feel isolated from other people, you can overcome that. Do you have a sense of purpose after what we discussed so far? For decades, psychologists have studied how long term meaningful goals develop over a span of our lives. The goal is that foster a sense of purpose or ones that potentially change the lives of other people like launching an organization, researching disease or teaching kids to read. Indeed a sense of purpose appears to have evolved in humans so that we can accomplish big things together, which may be why it’s so shaded with better physical and mental health. That is the reality revolution. If we are becoming more powerful in creating our thoughts and creating our realities, if we’re literally becoming more powerful with the force that shouldn’t we choose to instead of focusing on fear, finding our purpose, finding our purpose as human beings, we can do this. It changes us. It helps both individuals and species to survive. When a species has purpose to solve global warming, when we find a PR, when we find our purpose to save the world and make it better for the people that are after us, how can I do that with just my voice? I believe if I touch one person out there with what I’m seeing in this podcast, one person can be enough and I’m hope I’m touching you. Many seem to believe that arises from special gifts and sets you apart from other people, but that’s only part of the truth. It also grows through our connection to others, which is why a crisis, a purpose is often a symptom of isolation. Once you find your path, you’ll almost certainly find others traveling along with you, hoping to reach the same destination, a community, uh, reality revolution. One way you can do this to find your purpose, one of the most powerful things you can do is read. There’s so many incredible books out there. Please read everything that you can. Don’t just watch Tony Robbins read Tony Robbins. He’s a fantastic writer. All of his books, mastering the money game is incredible. All of his books awaken the giant within Dr Joe Dispenza. So many incredible authors have written so many incredible books on so many different scales that you should be reading them and they will help you find your purpose. Readings connects us to people. We’ll never know across time and space and experience. The research says is linked to a sense of meaning and purpose, meaning and purpose are related but separate in many ways. Purpose is a part of meaning, meaning is a much broader concept that usually also includes value of ficus, easy and self worth. In 2010 paper for example, Leslie Frontalis studied a group of nearly 26,000 teenagers throughout England and Wales and found that those who read the Bible more intended tended to have a stronger sense of purpose. Stecular reading seems to make a difference as well. In a survey of Empirical Studies, Raymond Emar and colleagues found a link between reading poetry and fiction and and giving a sense of purpose among adolescents. Reading fiction might allow adolescents to reason about whole lives of characters, giving them specific insight into an entire lifespan without having to follow fully live those lives that you become. Those lives in those books and as somebody that owns a bookstore, my greatest passion is that people read books. Books are thrown away every day. There’s so many penny books out there. I’m telling you, it’s the saddest thing. Books are dying away. Books are wonderful and magnificent. It changes us. It gives us such incredible knowledge, right? Read history like Dubois, talking about social justice, about art McKee to embrace a vision of African American identity and liberation. Or Michael Stole about social responses, theory of journalism. You can read impress articles, you can read magazine articles you can read. So if you’re feeling a crisis of purpose in your life, go to the bookstore or vibratory or university and read about people that overcame these crises and they will tell you the most incredible things that you need to know. Find the book that matters to you and they might help you to see what matters in your own life. Turn your mess into a message. Of course, finding purpose is not just an intellectual pursuit and something we need to feel and that’s why can grow out of suffering both our own and others. So many times it helps define us, but the way we overcome those things, there’s people in, in my family that I’ve seen overcome incredible crises and they have fueled my belief in the power of the universe. Sometimes another person’s campaign can lead us to purpose, and Christopher pepper was a senior in high school, a trembling tearful friend told him that she had been raped by a classmate. I comforted as well as I could and left that conversation vowing that I would do something to keep this from happening to others. He kept that promise by becoming a pure rape educator in college and then a sex educator in San Francisco public schools. Why do people find their purpose through suffering while others are just crushed by it? So if you are suffering some right now, find the advantage. If you listen to the podcast about two 50 the priestess. Find the advantage. Cultivate awe, gratitude and altruism. Cultivate them as if they’re things that you have to build, like muscles, certain emotions and behaviors that promote health and wellbeing can also foster a sense of purpose, awe, gratitude and altruism. Several studies connect conducted by the greater good science centers Dasher Keltner have shown the experience of awe makes us feel connected to something larger than ourselves and so can provide the emotional foundation for a sense of purpose. Of course, all by itself won’t give you a purpose in life. It’s not enough just to feel like your small part of something big. You also need to feel driven to make a positive impact on the world. That’s where gratitude and generosity come into play. It may seem counterintuitive to foster purpose by cultivating a grateful mindset, but it works. According to psychologists, Kendall Bunk, a leading expert on purpose as research by William Damon, Robert Emmons and others has found children and adults. We were able to count their blessings as much more likely to try to contribute to the world beyond themselves. This is probably because we can see how others make our world a better place will be more motivated to give something back and that’s what I’m talking about with altruism. There’s a little question at this point that helping others is associated with meaningful purpose life. In one study, for example, Darrell Ventolin gunner add colleagues found that people who engage in more altruistic behaviors like volunteering or donating money tend to have a greater sense of purpose in their lives. Interestingly, some people have a sense of purpose to ride their motorcycles. In the middle podcasts, gratitude and altruism seem to work together to generate meaning and purpose and another experiment, researchers randomly assigned some participants to write a letter of gratitude and those people later reported a stronger sense of purpose. What are you grateful about? Listen to what other people say about you that what do they appreciate about you? Let them tell you how you’ve helped, didn’t change your lives. Tell other people how you change, how they changed your life, and by doing that you’ll hear back about how you’ve changed other people’s lives, their art, artists, writers, and musicians I’ve talked to often described how appreciation from others fueled their worth. I’ve helped coach several writers and artists that truly just needed that little belief in themselves from some outside source. Maybe your sense of purpose is to help give other people a leg up and give them positive flow. That could be your purpose, that you’re simply here to raise the vibration of everybody around you by your very being, and maybe that’s your purpose. Danny Bruins had never lacks a sense of purpose. She told for years as a writer in social justice activists in Santa Rosa, California, but when wild fire swept through her community, Danny discovered that her strengths were needed in a new way. I’ve found that my networking and emergency response skills, I’ve been really helpful to my community, my students, and to firefighters. Maybe your purpose is something different than what you thought it was, although there’s no research that directly explores how being thanked might fuel a sense of purpose. We do know that gratitude strings, those relationships, and those are often the source of our purpose. As many of these stories suggest, find and build a community, find and start a revolution, a reality revolution.
